How do you sweeten?
To get a rich, sweet taste without added sugar, we use a base of sweet fiber, a plant extract from the stevia plant (Steviol glycosides), birch sugar (Xylitol) and a substance found naturally in plums, pears and grapes (Erythritol). These substances work together in a clever way and they all have an extremely low impact on blood sugar.

What is Stevia?

Can I eat NICKS when I am on a low calorie diet?
Of course you can! If you are disciplined and good at planning your intake of calories, our products can definitely be accommodated. Maybe not every day but definitely once in a while!
Your products contain a lot of calories. Where do they come from, since you don't use sugar.
I don't know what the definition of "mass" is but if you compare our products with the equivalent 'sugar products' you will notice that in 99 cases out of 100 ours are lower in calories.
We never use sugar (4 kcal/g) in our products, instead we primarily use xylitol (2.4 kcal/g), erythritol (0 kcal/g), stevia (0 kcal/g) and fiber (1-2 kcal/g depending on type).
However, in addition to sugar substitutes, a certain amount of fat (9 kcal/g) and protein (4 kcal/g) is needed for the product to have the right texture and taste. The amounts of these vary depending on the product and thus add different amounts of calories to different products. For example, in chocolate, cocoa butter must make up a certain proportion of the product for it to be called 'chocolate' at all. In addition, the fat is required for the chocolate to taste good, have the right hardness and melt well in the mouth.
So, since almost every product we make is more than just a sugar substitute, there are x number of calories added depending on the amount of fat and protein needed to make a good product.
